Jokingly enough one of the most influential quotes that i ever heard.
"Jack of all trades, master of none"
Robert Greene, 1592 booklet Greene's Groats-Worth of Wit
Often times, we believe that being able to do a-lot of different things is good, and don't get me wrong. It is. but in the case of being a creative, I believe in mastering one thing. once you feel as though you've reached a point of mastery in whatever you are trying to do, let the other things you learn compliment that. the word that I feel best embodies that is dabble.
I feel that when want you to dabble in many things, it allows you touch the surface or construct new ideas with your mastery work. Its almost like adding a new step to your morning routing whether it be reading a book, meditating, or yoga. No one is going perfect at those things in a day or in even a month, but as time continues the growth in those things will allow you to see the world different in your art.
In other words.....
"Be a specialist and not a generalist!"
